14 year-old Aseel Abu Aleil, Aseel Alshaarand Noor Alarada from Nablus have invented an beeping walking stick for visually impaired people. The stick has a downward-pointing sensor to warn of
pot-holes and stairwells, helping blind people find their way in the refugee camps.
“The idea of the stick came to us from watching blind people in our community, where they have lots of difficulty because the roads in our refugee camps have many obstacles and holes; we wanted to help them by developing the stick.“
Building the prototype wasn’t an easy task: the three teenagers had to go through Israeli checkpoints many times, in order to find the key components in Ramallah’s electrical stores.
